Home insurance costs keep falling
A RECENT downward trend in car insurance premiums has ended, but the
cost of home buildings and contents cover continues to fall, according
to the AA's latest benchmark British Insurance Premium Index.
Average quoted comprehensive car insurance premiums rose slightly over
the past quarter, but at £757 are still no more expensive than in
January 2003. Home buildings insurance premiums fell for the sixth
successive quarter to £203, cheaper than 11 years ago when the AA
Index started. Contents premiums have shown their fourth quarterly
decline to £148.
The AA attributed the findings to tough competition and said, while
the risk of a sudden hike remained, modest increases made that less
likely.
